The mission

Get in.
Get out.
Get paid.

Dropped into the Altai Mountains with a team he barely knows, a burned-out American mercenary has a straightforward assignment: infiltrate a remote castle, recover a high-value prisoner and reach the extraction point.

The briefing tells him almost nothing about the man he’s supposed to rescue. He needs the money badly enough to go anyway.

The prisoner

An old man.
A locked box.
No answers.

They find the prisoner shackled to the floor, his hands sealed inside a metal box. He can barely lift his head.

Nothing about him explains why they were sent here. But he insists they free his hands before they leave.

The battle

The rules of war
no longer apply.

Elsewhere in the castle, a machine opens a breach in reality. Creatures pour through. The old man reaches for an ancient amulet—and joins the battle with a power no military briefing could have prepared them for.

Assault rifles and magic fight side by side. The mission has become a struggle to get out alive.

The human stakes

He has a reason
to get home.

Back in North Carolina, his daughter lives in a house he can no longer afford. Paying for it is one thing he can still do for her.

He took this job to keep that promise. Now, between him and the extraction point, the castle is overrun by creatures.

For film and television

  • Modern warfare meets dark fantasy.

A tactical extraction mission becomes a battle with ancient magic and creatures from another world.

  • A bruised human centre.

A veteran mercenary takes a job he distrusts to support the daughter he loves.

  • Focused geography, escalating spectacle.

Snowbound wilderness, a remote castle and a small strike team give the supernatural action a clear physical setting.

  • Established screen storytellers.

Weidman and Tock’s credits include In the Shadow of the Moon, Limitless, Zoo and Dune: Prophecy.
